Blog 1: My Top 5 Sources of News and Information

1. Word of Mouth

One top source is by hearing news and information from friends, family, peers, etc. I like this source because I often trust the information from these sources Also, the news and information shared is often directly related to my life, especially if the words are coming from close friends or family. News and information from peers and professors are often subjects and topics I should be aware of but may not impact me directly.

2.   Snapchat

Although Snapchat is mostly used to communicate between friends, I also use Snapchat as a good source of news and information. The information is often about my friends that are added on the platform. Other information includes news about celebrities, trends, and other events happening in the world. I receive information from my friends about what they are doing or various events in their life. I am able to read and view news from popular magazines like People and Cosmopolitan. If I wanted to see what people were doing in a certain area, I could use the SnapMaps feature and click on an area to see public stories people I may not know have shared.

3.  Instagram

Instagram is a good source of news depending on who you follow and what kind of content you search for. I use Instagram as a source of news to get updates about what people are doing including friends and family. I also keep up with my favorite brands to know when new styles are dropped, or sales are happening. I also use Instagram as a source of information when traveling to figure out various sights I need to see and where the locals like to eat.

I watch the local news channel to High Point (WFMY) and the local news channel at home, mostly to keep up with the weather when there is a major storm like a snowstorm or hurricane. Sometimes I will watch the news channel to see what is going on in the area such as events like farmer’s markets or see how people are making an impact in the area.

The Campus Chronicle is the newspaper on High Point University’s campus that is written by students and published. The Chronicle is distributed around campus and published online to a website and social media platforms for anyone to view. The Campus Chronicle is a good source of news about what's happening on campus and the surrounding area. There are a variety of different sections that provide intriguing information. For example, the opinion section allows readers to dig into the mind of students on High Point’s campus while the organizations section allows readers to learn more about opportunities, events, and clubs on campus.
